FAYETTEVILLE- David W. Green, Jr., 45, of Fayetteville, passed away December 25, 2012.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. The burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery on Ramsey Street. The service will be conducted by his cousin, Pastor Brian Warren from Tyro, VA.
David was born August 19, 1967 in Fayetteville, NC. "DJ" as he was known to his family was a loving son and brother. He attended Cumberland County Schools and graduated from Fayetteville Technical Community College with a degree of Associates in Applied Sciences. He worked for over 20 years in the heating, air, and refrigeration field.
David had a great love for people, books, and history, often reading 5 or more books at a time. David was always there to help his friends and neighbors. Affectionately called "Mr. Encyclopedia", he often became the commentator for anything on the history channel. David spent at great deal of time at the library and supported the Friends of the Library organization. He had a passion for dogs and had a green thumb that could make any plant grow.
David is survived by his mother, Jennifer Thornton of Advance, NC; his father, David W. Green, Sr. of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Melissa Green Baxter, and Husband, David, niece, Cailin Baxter and nephew, Aidan Baxter, all of Fayetteville, grandmother, Opal Warren of Advance, NC, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Harold Richardson and Carol Kennedy for their love, support, and friendship with David over the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in David's honor to the Cumberland County Library through the Cumberland County Foundation (library tax id # 58-1406831) or the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society.
