Obituary

Dennis Woodford Rickman, 73, of Fayetteville went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Dennis was born on February 28, 1951, in Columbus, Mississippi to the late Ollie Winston Rickman and Elizabeth Huckaby Rickman. As a young boy the family moved to Sheffield, Alabama where he was raised and became a true Alabama Fan.

He was a graduate of Sheffield High School, received his bachelor's degree (in three years) from Florence State University, now known as The University of North Alabama. Upon graduation in 1973, he moved to Greensboro, NC for his first IRS assignment.  As a result, he met and married his wife, Judy Sykes, of Fayetteville.

Dennis retired from the IRS (Fayetteville Office) after 23 years of service and went on to become owner and operator of Rickman and Associates, Inc.

He was a devout Christian and loved sharing his faith with others. In 1975, he became a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, RA Leader, and several other positions. His love for the Lord led him to become a member of The Gideons International, where he served for many years. He also attended RHEMA Bible College.

Dennis loved his family and especially his sweet grandchildren.  He enjoyed watching westerns, collecting diecast cars, fishing, and loved the many family dogs.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 1 to 2 pm at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.  Funeral services will follow at the church at 2 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Rickman and his sister, Lois Ann Roland.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Judy Sykes Rickman; son, Timothy David Rickman and wife, Maria; daughter, Kimberly Denise Hockenberry and husband, Dale; grandchildren, Lily Rose Hockenberry, Leah Grace Hockenberry, Everett "Rett" Hockenberry V, Alexander Luis Rickman, Andrew David Rickman; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
