Retired Army Master Sergeant Dewey James Touchton, 87, of Fayetteville, formerly of Linden, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at Highsmith Rainey Hospital.
Mr. Touchton was born and raised in Valdosta, Georgia. He entered the army in September 1940 and was a veteran of WWII. He retired after 21 years of service in which time he received numerous awards including the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in France, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star and others. He was also retired from Defender Industries at Kelly-Springfield.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 9, 2007, at 11 am in Parkers Grove United Methodist Church in Linden with Rev. Steve Little officiating. The burial will follow at the church cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Touchton was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Godwin Touchton. He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Touchton Harmon and her husband, Bob, of Fayetteville and Christa Touchton Moose and her husband, William, of Charlotte; son, Kenneth \\"Doby\\" Touchton of Fayetteville; three grandsons, Jason Harmon of Chapel Hill, Travis Harmon of Fayetteville, and Matthew Moose of Charlotte; and his sister, Judy Brown of Valdosta, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening July 8, 2007, from 6 to 8 pm at Jernigan Warren.
