Dr. Don Edward Harris, 66, went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2017. Don was a long time resident of Fayetteville, NC and a member of Berean Baptist Church.

Don was born to the late Emma Nash Malone on May 12, 1951. At the age of 12 he received Christ as his Savior and Lord and immediately began directing his life toward teaching and ministering God's word to others. It was a strong passion of his. He graduated in 1973 from the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff with a Bachelor's degree in History and Government, where he attended after earning a football scholarship. He then went on to receive a Masters of Divinity from Liberty Baptist Seminary in 1984. In May 2008, he received a Ph.D from Bethany Seminary. Don served in the military for a total of 17 years spending the majority of his time as a military Chaplain. Don was a devoted and loving husband and father. He met Shirley Ann Davis while she was serving as a nurse in the military and they married on February 4, 1978. On January 30, 1979 they welcomed a son, Andre Matthew Harris, followed by their daughter Christine Elizabeth Harris. His children have fond memories of family devotions and his presence at every game, band competition, piano recital, promotion, graduation, and other important events. After serving in the military, he went on to pursue his passion of teaching. He taught at Methodist College, Carolina Bible College, Fayetteville Technical Community College and service at Berean Baptist Church teaching numerous classes. He always considered Berean Baptist Church to be his family and was so thankful that God allowed him to serve. His life's verse was Philippians 1:6 – Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Don passed away peacefully in his home with family in attendance after a 9 year battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. He will be remembered as devoted husband and father, passionate teacher and faithful friend.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Harris, daughter, Christine Washington (David), sister, Patricia Ann Rivers, grandchildren, Eden Amaia Harris , Anjalee Bridges-Smith, Ethan Alexander Washington, Spencer Bradley Washington, along with cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Malone, father, Essex Harris, and son, Andre Harris. A home-going celebration is scheduled at Berean Baptist Church on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 1PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Don's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Berean Baptist Church.
