Donna S.
Lampkins
July 8, 2015
Mrs. Donna Simpson Lampkins, 68, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning, July 10, 2015, at 9 am in Jernigan Warren Chapel. The burial will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. The family will receive friends immediately following the ceremony at the cemetery.
Donna was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Verlin and Jean Simpson. She spent her early years as an Army brat living in Germany, several posts in the US, and finally graduating in Panama. Her marriage to SGM Robert Lampkins led to further adventures in military life as a dependent wife. In addition to holding down the fort while he served, Donna volunteered as the Junior and Cadette troop leader of the Girl Scouts on Ft. Bragg, NC, volunteered as a coordinator of the Community Life Program on post, and worked as a distributor of the Fort Bragg Paraglide. With her love of books, Donna's employment with the Cumberland County Library was a natural fit and she worked there over 20 years. She has spent her retirement traveling the US by RV with her husband, Sam. Donna loves her family, her dogs, being on the open road, and exploring our world. She is loved by many because of her wit, intelligence, independence, and generosity and she will be greatly missed.
Donna is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert Samuel Lampkins of the home; 3 daughters, Angela Martinez and husband Ramon of Concord, Pamela Ann Tilman and husband Jim of Charleston, SC, and Melissa Denise Lampkins and companion Ian Scott of Philadelphia, PA; son, Robert Lee Lampkins and wife Lisa of Fayetteville; 3 sisters, Jeanette Kazear of Spanaway, WA, Amy Barnell of St. Cloud, FL, and Julie Simpson Eller of Damascus, AR; brother, Verlin Bo Simpson of Kill Devil Hills; and 7 grandchildren, Samantha Tilman, Sean Tilman, Cody Tilman, Amanda Martinez, Ramon Samuel Martinez, Nelson Martinez, and Mary Rebecca Martinez.
