Donnie Mae
Lytle Mcmillan
May 2, 1927 – September 4, 2016
Donnie Lytle McMillan, born May 2, 1927, left this earth peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at her home with her son Davey by her side. She was an amazing woman, a loving wife who loved her husband dearly and a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved her children, her grandson and family with all her heart. She will truly be missed but there are many open arms in heaven to welcome her home. She touched so many lives through her journey here and the family wants to give special thanks to all her caregivers from Home Instead and Liberty Hospice.
They made such a difference and made her last days on this earth as comfortable as possible. You were her angels. She is survived by daughter Donna McMillan Weaver, son-in-law, Art Weaver, and grandson Andrew Weaver of Oviedo, Florida, son David McMillan and Paula Lane of Fayetteville, her brother Jerry Lytle of Raeford, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their "Aunt Donnie." She was pre-deceased by her loving husband David McMillan, sisters Ruth Phillips, Martha Miller, Margaret Davis, Bibby Smith, and brother G.C. Lytle. She devoted her career to the school system of Robeson and Cumberland Counties, working as a high school English teacher at Parkton High School and as an English teacher at Alexander Graham Junior High in Fayetteville. After her children entered school, she went to work at Lucile Souders Elementary, served as the church secretary at Peace Presbyterian Church, where she has been a long and faithful member, and ended her career for Cumberland County Schools as the secretary at Pine Forest High School. She leaves behind a legacy of service to a number of former students who lovingly refer to her as "Miss Donnie."
The service will be held Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Peace Presbyterian Church. The family will receive visitors from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm and the service will follow at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to Peace Presbyterian Church in memory of Donnie McMillan.
