Doris Louise Dawson McArthur, 94, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, April 23, 2023, in the family home where her husband Joe was born in 1924.

Born in Fort Benning, GA, to James Thomas Dawson and Catherine Dale Dawson on December 26, 1928, and raised in a military family, Doris met her husband Joseph Allan McArthur during assignment to Fort Bragg. They were married September 14, 1948. With husband Joe by her side, Doris became a member of MacPherson Presbyterian Church, serving in the church's various ministries. Together, Joe and Doris established a home construction business, and they made their home in the McArthur homeplace on Clifdale Road.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the MacPherson Presbyterian Church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband for over 60 years, Joseph Allan McArthur.

Doris is survived by sister, Jane Dawson Dashiell; brother, Charles Dawson and wife Joan; sons, Joseph Allan McArthur Jr., James Dawson McArthur and wife Alice, William Jennings McArthur and wife Sandra; and daughter, Mary Elizabeth McArthur Warner and husband Sam; 10 grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
