Obituary

Doris H. Harris FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Doris Hales Harris, 95 of Fayetteville, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, in the Carroll S. Roberson Hospice Center. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, having served as the first lady deacon. She was a choir member, the teacher of the Downing Sunday school class for 50 years, a member of the WMU, having served as chairwoman, and chairwoman of the Flower Committee. She was office manager for Dr. L. B. Hardison after 25 years and a former bookkeeper at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was past president of the Fayetteville Rose Society. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Anderson Street with the Rev. A. Edward Beddingfield Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thurman Spell, Lacy Council and Elliott Harris; brothers, Marian, Milton and Elwood Hales; sisters, Lucille Melvin and Lena Belle Coats; son, Alfred Reginald Spell; and parents, Roy and Jennie Hales. Surviving are stepson, Ferrell Council of Melbourne, Fla.; sister, Grace H. Yeager of the home; stepsons, William J. Harris of Lake Jackson, Texas, Mark J. Harris of Burlington and Michael M. Harris of Mebane; stepdaughter, Mary Harris Jasmine of Concord; and four stepgrandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, one hour prior to the service in the Memorial Lounge at the church.
