Mrs. Dorothy Julia Napier Jurek, 73, of Fayetteville, formerly of Portage, Pa., born Nov. 9, 1933, died Monday, May 21, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2007, in Hay Street United Methodist Church by Dr. John Tyson. Burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. Mrs. Jurek was a 1955 graduate of Windber Hospital, where she received a degree in nursing. She was instrumental in the founding of Southeastern Regional Rehabilitation Center at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where she served as director of nursing and was very involved in state boards and organizations focused on rehabilitation. She retired from Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in January 1993, after being there since November 1971. She maintained her nursing license and volunteered at The CARE Clinic since its founding, later serving on its local board as president. She was the widow of Andy Jurek. She is survived by a son, Jeff Jurek, his wife, Marj, and their sons, Matthew and Kyle, of Raleigh; a daughter, Jade Jurek, her husband, Michael Burriss, and their son, David, of Raleigh; three sisters, Jolene "Honey" McCall of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Thelma "Sis" Daniels of North Royalton, Ohio, and Rewey McAuley of Forest Hill, Md.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The CARE Clinic, P.O.
