HOPE MILLS — Mrs. Dorothy Shelton Saxton passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012, in her home in Hope Mills.
She was born in Fayetteville, on Feb. 6, 1926. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William Robert and Lavinia Sutton Averitte of Massey Hill; several brothers and sisters; and her husbands, Everett L. Shelton and Albert Saxton of Chattanooga, Tenn.
Dorothy's funeral was held Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Jernigan Warren-Funeral Home in Fayetteville. She was interred in Chattanooga on Friday, June, 15, 2012.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; sisters, Luvenia Teague Hall, Eleanor Byrd and Addie Wingate; and brother, Robert J. Averitte, all of Fayetteville.
Dorothy attended Massey Hill High School, but lived most of her life in Chattanooga. She was the founder of Dot's Beauty Shop and Shelton's Beauty College, for which she operated and owned for 46 years. In 2003, she returned back to Fayetteville, to live her remaining years closer to her home roots and family.
