Mrs. Dorothy Irene Hawley Weeks, 92, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in her home. Mrs. Weeks is survived by her son, Mayon Jr. and wife Mackie; daughter, Jane Weeks Gardiner and her husband Keith; and daughter Julie Weeks Rufenacht and husband Brady; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Mayon Jerome (MJ) Weeks, and one grandson. Mrs. Weeks was a native of Sampson County, North Carolina. After marrying the love of her life in 1940 they moved to Fayetteville in 1946. There they both dedicated their time contributing to their church, friends and the larger community. She was a past member of the Jaycettes, the Literary Book Club, Ikebana, and United Methodist Women. She was a founding member of the Cotillion Club and the Town and Country Garden Club. An avid learner, Mrs. Weeks traveled the world where she enjoyed experiencing many different cultures. She loved entertaining guests in her home. She had a passion for cooking and spent time developing her culinary skills. Many Friday nights were spent dancing with her husband and friends. Mrs. Weeks always strived to do her best in everything she did and had very high standards. Her love of nature and all things beautiful were very important; however, her love of family was the most important thing of all. Mrs. Weeks was a long time member of Hay Street United Methodist Church. The children's wing of Hay Street Church is named for Mr. and Mrs. Weeks in honor of their leadership and service to the congregation. In celebration of Mrs. Weeks' life a visitation will be held in the sanctuary of Hay Street United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM Saturday followed by a service at 3:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Lafayette Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hay Street United Methodist Church.
