Douglas (DC) Barrett passed away on Sunday, May 31. He was born January 22, 1935, the only child of John and Sadie Barrett.

Growing up in Massey Hill, he graduated from Massey Hill High School in 1954. Following graduation he began his career with Carolina Telephone. Answering his call from Uncle Sam and serving his draft in the US Army, he returned to Carolina Telephone, later becoming Sprint, where he retired after 40 years of service.

DC is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary, who he affectionately called “Lou”. Son Douglas and wife Rebecca, granddaughter Hannah, grandson Jack, and a large extended family. He loved them all dearly and they loved him as much.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 5, 2:00pm at Hay Street United Methodist Church. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

The family requests donation in memory of DC be made to Fayetteville Animal Protection Society or a charity of one’s choice.
