Douglas Howard Crumpler, Sr, Age 77, of Fayetteville, passed away Friday, October 30, 2009 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was born October 23, 1932 to Clarence A. Crumpler and Mattie McLaurin Crumpler. He Spent his childhood on Meadowbrook Dairy Farm in Eastover with his 8 brothers and sisters. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Mr Crumpler worked in the medical field as an Orthopedic and Surgical Technician at the Veterans Hospital for 38 years. After his retirement he returned to work for seven years with Cape Fear Valley Hospital in the surgical department. Before his illness he was actively involved in his church and community, always considering those in need. He is surivied by his wife, Mary Vincent Crumpler of the home, a daughter, Elizabeth Clark and her husband Stephen of Fayetteville, a son D. Howard Crumpler, Jr of Hampstead, a grandson, Tyler Joel Crumpler also of Hampstead, 3 sisters, Jo Ann Stamps of Sanford, Wilma Williams and Christine Horne of Fayetteville, 2 brothers J.A. Crumpler of Fayetteville, Rev. Millard Crumpler of Garner. He was preceded in death by His parents; his sisters, Estelle Cade and Willa Matthews, a brother, K. Royce Crumpler and his grandson, Douglas Allen Barnes. Funeral service will be at 3:00pm Monday November 2, 2009 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 2:45pm before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the local American Heart Association, 2711 Breezewood Avenue, Fayetteville, NC 28303 ; the American Cancer Society, 930 Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834, or to your favorite charity.
