Obituary

Mr. Dwight A. Bailey, 57, of Spring Lake, departed this life after a long illness on January 28, 2007, in the Veterans Care Unit of Fayetteville, NC. Dwight was the son of the late Rosalie Bailey King and William Grandison. He was born on May 21, 1949 in Isle of Wight County, Carrollton, Virginia. Dwight was educated in the public schools of Carrollton and Smithfield, Va. He left Virginia following graduation from high school to seek employment at General Motors in Detroit. He worked there for several years. He returned home to Virginia for a brief period and then moved to Baltimore. Dwight joined the Navy for a three year tour in the Phillipines. He was a freelance photographer and owner of his taxicab business. He also joined the Maryland National Guard. When his country began to accept volunteers for Desert Storm, Dwight signed up and left for Ft. Bragg. He then met Eva Blanc while in North Carolina. Dwight remained in North Carolina until he became ill following treatment. He was admitted to the Veteran's Unit in Hampton, Va. Dwight fought a good fight until the end. He loved people and enjoyed having a good time with family gatherings and social events. Funeral services for Dwight will be held, Friday, February 2, 2007, at 12:30 pm in Jernigan Warren Chapel with the burial following at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery. Dwight leaves to cherish his memory, Eva Blanc, his wife; his brother, Vanzelist King Jr. of Newport News; his sister, Vera Baldwin of Carrollton; devoted Aunt Grace Bailey Robinson, of Baltimore; four nephews, two neices and a host of relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening, February 1, 2007, from 7 to 9 pm.
