Obituary

Retired Army Lt. Col. Earl \\"Pete\\" Peterson, 90, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 2p.m. in Wesley Heights UMC with the Rev Tryon D. Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park with military and Masonic rites. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Mr. Peterson was a member of Clifford Duell Lodge. He was the treasurer and past master. He was also a longtime member of Wesley Heights UMC, where he sang in the choir and was chairman of the administrative board. He retired from the Army after 24 years, having served in both, World War II and Korea; and oversaw the original installation of \\"Iron Mike.\\" He is survived by his wife, Louise M. Peterson of the home; two children, Earlena Marshall of Ozark, Ala., and Rebecca Montgomery of Phoenix; sister, Patricia Miller of Milwaukee, Wis.; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Heights UMC, Trinity Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28301; or the Masonic Center Building, Village Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28304.
