FAYETTEVILLE - Edward J. \\"E.J.\\" Kennedy departed this life for his heavenly home Saturday, April 11, 2009. E.J. graduated from Fayetteville High and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Hay Street United Methodist Church and Creasy Proctor Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be conducted at 11a.m. Tuesday in Hay Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in the church parlor. E.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alice Kennedy; a brother, Carl Kennedy; and two sisters, Hazel Dale Johnson and Lucille Maddox. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy; a son, Charles and his wife, Kathy, of Fayetteville; a daughter, Anne Chalk and her husband, Kevin, of Roswell, Ga.; two sisters, Ethel Sykes and Mary Hollingsworth of Fayetteville; and two grandchildren, Kyle and Casey Kennedy of Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hay Street United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 320 Hay St., Fayetteville, NC 28301. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
