Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth "Beth" Hall Player, 83, of Fayetteville, NC, died Saturday, February 25, 2023, at the McLeod Health Seacoast Hospital, Little River, SC.  Beth was born March 9, 1939, in Fayetteville, NC, to the late James Allen Hall and Mary Lucille McInnis.  She was in charge of the home, a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

June 1958, Beth received a diploma from Fayetteville City Schools: Fayetteville High School. She continued her education at Montreat-Anderson College where she received an Associate in Science degree.  Montreat, NC, the homeplace of evangelist Billy Graham, remained close to Beth's heart.  Beth often gathered with friends in Christian fellowship at The Cove: Billy Graham Training Center.

Beth is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Henry C. Player Jr.  It was 1962, when Beth met Henry at a finance company grand opening where she worked. Henry and the Player Inc. team had completed construction of the finance office.  They were married in November 1963 at First Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville.

After marriage, she was baptized and became a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church where she taught youth Sunday school and Girls in Action. Later she became Director of the Women's Missionary Union. Beth and Henry periodically attended the L. Nelson Bell Sunday school classes when visiting Montreat, NC.

Beth enjoyed traveling with family and time spent on the NC Coast.  In a recreational vehicle with family, she visited 49 states in our country.  She was a member of the NC Shell Club that collected and shared shells with the youth and adults. While at the coast, she organized a golf cart parade of neighbors, dogs, veterans, bikes, and strollers on the Fourth of July.  This grew to become an island-wide event welcoming all to take part.

As a member of the Junior League of Fayetteville, she led historic downtown tours for both school children and adults. Beth enthusiastically cheered for the Wolfpack. NCSU is the alma mater of her husband, son in law and grandson. She enjoyed membership in the Lady Lions, the Lafayette Garden Club, The Cape Fear Scottish Clans and was a lifetime member of the International Association of the Clan MacInnis.

Also survived by their daughter, Meredith Player Stiehl and husband the Honorable Robert J. Stiehl III; two grandchildren, Kenan Elizabeth Stiehl and Barrett Carlton Stiehl; brother, James Allen Hall Jr and wife Brenda and their children Jessica Curry and Jamie Hall; brother-in-law, Lonnie M.
