Ellen N. Grimes, 78 of Fayetteville, joined the Angels in Heaven Tuesday August 2, 2011 in the family home. She passed away after a long battle with cancer with the support of Community Hospice, her beloved husband, children & siblings. Ellen was born in Benson, NC on April 5, 1933. Her parents were the late Medie Creech Neighbors & Silas Colon Neighbors. Ellen was voted Best Female Athlete in high school. She played basketball & bowled. She was also the Historian of her graduating class. Her nickname was "legs" due to her height. Ellen was the beloved wife of Kenneth Grimes for 58 years. While her husband served in the US Army as an officer for 30 years, she was the General in charge at home. Ellen worked for Carolina Telephone, Carolina A T & T & Pacific Telephone as an operator for 10 years. Her greatest joy was being the mother of her three children & grandmother to her three grandchildren. Throughtout the years, Ellen Cooked for ill Neighbors & taught everyone around her how to grow plants from seeds & cuttings. She felt one was closer to God
