Retired Sgt. Major Elmer L. \\"Robbie\\" Roberts, Sr, age 93, died October 15, 2011. Born December 13, 1917 in Provencal, Louisana, SGM Roberts was a thirty year U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam War. He served the last eleven years of his military carrer as a Special Forces Green Beret. His awards and decorations include Master Parachutist, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Emma Bernice "Bea" Gathright Roberts, and daughter Gail Roberts. He is survived by seven children, 14 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends and relatives from 1:00pm to 1:45pm on Tuesday October 18, 2011 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, a graveside service will follow at 2:00pm at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.
