Obituary

Eloise M. Talley EASTOVER — Mrs. Eloise McLaurin Talley, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at her home in Eastover, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Talley was born in Eastover, Jan. 13, 1921, and resided there her entire life. Among other honors, she was named Cumberland County's Lay Person of the Year 1989, by the United Methodist Church and in 2007 she was named to the Cumberland County Agriculture Hall of Fame, honoring her for her lifetime commitment to farming and rural life. The Talley Woodland Park on Middle Road is named for her and her late husband, Victor F. "V.F." Talley. Mrs. Talley served on the South River Electric Membership Board for more than 20 years, playing an active role in the State Wide Association. She also participated in the organization of the Eastover Sanitary District. She was a 4-H Club leader, a member of the Homemaker's Club, the Dig-a-bit Garden Club and the Eastover Civic Club. Mrs. Talley was committed to her family and community. She was known for her generosity and compassion, and for her boundless energy. No one ever left her home hungry. Eloise Talley is survived by her daughters, Mary Talley of Eastover, Susan Talley of Eastover and Martha Talley of Chevy Chase, Md.; by her daughter-in-law, Barbara Talley of Wilmington; by her sister-in-law, Martha "Peggy" McDaniel of Fayetteville; by her granddaughter, Tiffany Talley Maloney and her husband, Scott Maloney and their daughters, Ella and Kara Maloney of Wilmington; her granddaughter, Tovia Joines of Wilmington; her grandson, U.S. Marine Capt. Jackson McLaurin Smith and his wife, Kristen Smith of Hubert; her granddaughter, Emily Smith of Baltimore, Md.; and her granddaughter, Rachel Spears of Greensboro. She was preceded in death by her son, Victor Talley, as well as her husband, V.F. Talley, her parents, William Duncan and Alberta McLaurin; and her brothers, Hector, Curtis, David and W.D. McLaurin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the building fund of Salem United Methodist Church, 2165 Middle Rd., Eastover, NC 28312, where Mrs. Talley was a life-long member; or to the Town of Eastover for the care and maintenance of Talley Woodland Park. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at 3p.m. in Salem United Methodist Church.
