Mrs. Elsie Yvonne Godwin Calhoun, 81, of Fayetteville, died Monday, November 13, 2023, at Spring Arbor of Kinston.

Yvonne was born November 11, 1942, in Sampson County, NC, to the late Raymond Alton Godwin Sr. and Molly Mae Denning Godwin.  Yvonne received an associate degree at Worthington Business College, formerly located on Hay Street in Fayetteville, NC.  She went on to work in bookkeeping prior to and in conjunction with her loving commitment to homemaking and child rearing.  She was an avid tennis player and gardener.  Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, John David Calhoun Sr.

Yvonne is survived by her daughters, Lisa Calhoun Dietzen and Katherine Yvonne Calhoun Pierce; son, John David Calhoun Jr (and wife Amy); sister, Portia Godwin Knowles; brother, Connie Ray Godwin; grandchildren, Landon Calhoun (and wife Alexis), Rebecca Claros (and husband Jason and stepdaughter Alana), Carson Alexandra Pierce (and husband Tommy), Kennedy-Grace Pierce, Elliot Tinker Pierce, Elizabeth Meeks (and husband Kaleb), and David Calhoun; and great-grandchildren, Jaxon Blue Claros, Layla Grace Calhoun, and Isabella Faith Calhoun.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Dunn, NC.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Spring Arbor Cottage of Kinston for their loving care of Yvonne.
