Mrs. Elsie Howard Haywood, 86 of Fayetteville died peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Marshall Haywood, her parents Robbie C. Howard and Melvina W. Howard; brothers Robert R. Howard, Roland C. Howard, Earl G. Howard and Max G. Howard. She is survived by her sister Lillian Autry Peterson; sons, Charles T. Haywood, wife Rachel; Alan H. Haywood, wife Missy; Donald E. Haywood, wife Faith. Survived also by grandchildren Jennifer L. Haywood, Jessica I. Haywood, Joshua A. Haywood, Alexander D. Haywood and M. Camille Haywood. Elsie was a long standing member of Trinity Baptist Church of Fayetteville. She faithfully served and supported her church and her Lord in any way she could including being a nursery volunteer, church dinner coordinator and cook. Elsie retired from the U.S. Veterans Hospital Dental Unit after 30 years of service. She enjoyed a second career of catering, including baking wedding cakes. Elsie also partnered with son Alan as "Mrs. Full Charge" in the family rental management business. Elsie was loved and respected by all who knew her. To know her was to know her generous spirit and loving nature. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 12 noon in Jernigan-Warren Chapel. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. till 12 noon on Tuesday, September 10, 2013.
