Elwood Stanley \\"Bill\\" Cain Sr., 88, of Fayetteville, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, after a courageous battle with melanoma cancer.
Church was an important part of his life and he served God faithfully as an active member, deacon Sunday school teacher and various other roles at Immanuel Baptist Church of Fayetteville, White Oak Baptist Church of White Oak, and finally First Baptist Church of Fayetteville. He was previously an active member of the White Oak Ruritan Club and Optimist International. He currently was serving on the board of the Mac Roberts Evangelistic Association of Bladen County.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edra; son, Woodie Cain and wife Sandie of High Point; daughter, Pam Sutton and husband Jim Charlotte; five grandchildren, Ashley Cain of Raleigh, Victoria Sutton of Raleigh, Michael Cain of Portland, Maine, Savanna Sutton of Charlotte, and Kristin Cain of Raleigh. He is also survived by his sister, Isla Gipson of Sutter Creek, Calif.; brother, Wingate Cain of White Oak; and sister, Polly Williams of White Oak.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Katherine Dupuis and Sybil Bisconish. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight, Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Fayetteville. Burial will follow in White Oak Baptist Church cemetery.
