FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Emily Hollingsworth Helms Navidad, 77, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011. Mrs. Navidad was born in Kenansville on April 5, 1933. She was a graduate of East Carolina University and retired as an art teacher from Cumberland County schools. She was a volunteer at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum. She was preceded in death by husbands, Johnny C, Helms and Rodrigo R. Navidad; parents, Robert and Bertha Hollingsworth; and sister, Joyce Strickland. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. Randy Bremer. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. She is survived by her daughters, Karen H. Leake and husband Robert of New Orleans and Michelle N. Pearson and husband Nicholas of Fayetteville; brother, Robert Hollingsworth of San Antonio; grandson, Jacob N. Smotherman and wife Victoria; granddaughter, April Martin; great-granddaughter, Camille Brook Smotherman; and beloved canine companion, Panda.
