Obituary

Mrs. Emma Freda \\"Dot\\" Bunnell Ray, 78, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Ray was born in Parkton on Dec. 19, 1928, to the late Norman Luther Bunnell and Macy Gertrude Davis Bunnell. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman Hubert Bunnell, Matthew Weldon \\"Chick\\" Bunnell, and Joseph Samuel Bunnell; three sisters, Macy Gertrude Bunnell Huckabee Fisk Benson, Margaret Kathleen Bunnell Small Smith and Rebecca Ann Bunnell Cavert. Mrs. Ray worked in and out of the home before her retirement. She was a substitute teacher with Cumberland County Action Program, a secretary with Hyman Supply Co., a switchboard operator with Cumberland County offices and a secretary with the Cumberland County Electrical/Mechanical Division. In 1984, Mrs. Ray was the organizing president of the Cumberland County Genealogical Society. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John Angus Ray; a son, Neill Angus Ray, of the home; two sisters, Hallie Brown and Shelbia Tetreault; and best friend, Syble Bunnell. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Jernigan Warren. Immediately following the visitation graveside services will be held in Cross Creek Cemetery at 3 pm with the Rev. Dr. Gene Miller officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
