Obituary

RAEFORD - Mrs. Etta Mae Barnes Meismer, 75, of 2851 Lindsay Road, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, in her home. Born Sept. 27, 1933, in Hoke County, she was the daughter of the late George Dewey Dees Sr. and Ottie Long Dees. Mrs. Meismer was a graduate of Hoke County High School. She was a member of Galatia Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville. Mrs. Meismer was preceded in death by her first husband, Julian Paul Barnes. She is survived by her husband, J.C. Meismer; daughters, Jane Davis and husband Jeff of Wilmington, and Marilyn Overcash and husband Craig of Mount Ulla; sons, Paul Barnes and wife Sandy of Raeford, and Kenneth Barnes and wife Gay of Raleigh; eight grandchildren, Joshua Overcash, Kendall Tyson, Jordan Davis, Jeremy Barnes, Sarah Beth Barnes, Ivey Barnes, Ashley Barnes and Joseph Barnes; two great-grandchildren, Paige and Lorali Overcash; stepsons, Ronald Meismer and wife Katrina of Rockwell and Terry Meismer of Rockwell; and three stepgrandchildren. The family received friends Sunday evening at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. today, June 29, 2009, in Galatia Presbyterian Church, 8800 Galatia Church Road, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Mike Bainai of Grand Rapids, Mich., officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice of Hoke County, 336 S. Main St., Raeford, NC 28376; or to the Youth Fellowship Programs of Galatia Presbyterian Church, 8800 Galatia Church Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304.
