Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Eugene W. Melton Sr., 82, of Fayetteville, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, in Womack Army Medical Center. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was also a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at 2p.m. at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street, with the Rev. John Cook officiating. Active U.S. Army servicemen will serve as pallbearers, and his beloved grandsons will act as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Home in Fayetteville. He is survived by sons, Eugene W. Melton Jr. and wife Joan Lynn of Gray's Creek, Kenneth Melton of Fayetteville, David Melton and wife Susan of Fayetteville, Larry Melton of Fayetteville and Carey Melton and wife Audrey of Fayetteville; daughters, Mary Smith and husband Charlie of Hope Mills, Debbie Goode of Fayetteville and Donna Pate and husband Ricky of Gray's Creek; sister, Frances Bigham of Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret Parker Melton. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
