SOUTHERN PINES — Mrs. Evelyn Barfield Joyner, 91, formerly of Fayetteville, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, in Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Evelyn was a resident of Penick Village for the past eight years. She was a member of Hay Street United Methodist Church in Fayetteville. Evelyn was a devoted daughter, loving wife and mother and doting grandmother, who enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, playing cards and bingo, and, most especially, cooking lots of wonderful food for her family. Thanksgiving at the Joyner house was always an especially joyful time with all of her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville, with the Rev. Ben West officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Joyner Sr., and parents, Oliver and Eva Barfield. Surviving are her sons, Edward M. Joyner Jr. and wife Carol of Southern Pines and Bill Joyner and wife Lisa of Fayetteville; daughters, Joey Bledsole of Hope Mills and Stella Facini of Conway, South Carolina; sister, Blanche Dugan of Milton, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Eva Wood Rutiri, Amy Wood Enneking, Carol Anne Joyner Fry, Edward M. Joyner III, Michael Joyner, Jennifer Christiansen, David Joyner and Adam Joyner; 11 great grandchildren; and three special nieces, Patsy Woller, Mary Alice Gallagher and Betty Kirby. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, an hour prior to the service, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hay Street United Methodist Church, 320 Hay St., Fayetteville, NC 28301 Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Chapel Burial following in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
