CSM Floyd W. Rettman, US Army Special Forces (Retired), of Fayetteville, passed away March 18, 2017, in his residence.
A funeral service with full military honors will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Main Post Chapel.
Born September 12, 1936 in Hutchinson, MN, he was the son of the late Edward and Louise Rettman. Floyd retired from the Army with 26 years of service and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. CSM Rettman was the recipient of numerous awards to include: the Special Forces Tab, National Defense Service Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Master Parachutist Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Ranger Tab, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Civil Actions Medal, and Legion of Merit.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milan Rettman; and nephew, Mark Rettman.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth; son, Neil Rettman; daughters, Belinda Rand and husband John and Cathy Masten, all of Fayetteville; two granddaughters, Erin Ayers and husband Marine Gunnery Sergeant Matthew Ayers of Jacksonville, NC and Priscilla Rettman of Tampa; three great-grandsons, Ayden, Everett and Maverick Ayers; his brother, Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Howard Rettman and wife Gladys of Blaine, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
