Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Fravel L. "Monty" Montooth, 92 , died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, in the N.C. State Veterans Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Cabarrus County to Frank L. Montooth and Velna McCullum Montooth. He was a Navy veteran, and a retired Army sergeant. He served in World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Montooth was a true Southern gentleman, who loved to read the Bible and take notes, play chess, play golf, square dance and "call" square dance and loved to go bowling. Mr. Montooth loved his family time with his wife Jean; his brother, Charles "Jeep" Montooth; and sisters, Faye and Barbara. He truly loved his special time with all of his nieces, Anne Lynne, Jane Montooth Burke and Susan Montooth Harvell; and his great-nephews and great-nieces, Brett Little, Kyle Harvell and Meredith Harvell. He loved to spend time watching sports and playing chess with his nephew, Brett, and talking about cats with his niece, Meredith. He treasured and loved his special friends, Kenny Burke and Marge and Doug White. He always sincerely appreciated Kenny's professional help and advice, bowling with Doug and Marge's help, friendship and her outstandingly "good cooking"!! Mr. Montooth was loved by all including the staff at the N.C. State Veteran's Nursing Home, and was a kind and gentle soul, who loved the Lord and he exemplified this in all he said and did. He will always be loved and truly missed by all. A graveside service will be held today, Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 3 p.m. in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. Mr. Montooth was preceded in death by his wife, Jean L. Montooth; brother; Charles R. Montooth; and sisters; Faye M. Smith and Barbara Montooth. He is survived by his nieces, Jane M. Burke and husband Kenny of Fayetteville, Susan M. Harvell and husband Mark of Lillington, and Anne L. Montooth of Fayetteville; great-nephews, Brett Little of Fayetteville, and Kyle Harvell of Wilmington, great-niece, Meredith Harvell of Wilmington; and special friends, Doug and Marge White of Fayetteville. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 3pm in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street, the family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery.
