red Hartwell Kennedy Jr., 81, of 2700-4 Preston Woods Lane, Fayetteville, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, in Lafayette Memorial Park with the Rev. A. Edward Beddingfield Jr. officiating. Mr. Kennedy was a lifelong resident of Fayetteville and loved his hometown. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a certified real estate appraiser and a member of the N.C. Board of Realtors. He had worked with his late brother, John, at John Kennedy Realtors. His special interests included billiards and bowling. Mr. Kennedy was a gentle and kind man and will be missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Fred Hartwell Kennedy III. He is survived by his daughter, Julia A. Kennedy of Pittsboro; his sister, Flossie Mae Kennedy of Fayetteville; his sister-in-law, Marion Kennedy of Fayetteville; his cousins, Ethel Sykes, Mary Hollingsworth, Ed Carter and E.J. Kennedy, all of Fayetteville, W.R. Kennedy of Sanford, Dixie Martin of Charlotte, Julia Wade of Charlotte and Joe Carter of Southern Pines; his niece, Jane Kennedy Clayton of Fayetteville; his nephews, Robert B. Kennedy of Atlanta and John L. Kennedy Jr. of Greenwich, Conn.; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, Jan. 10, 2008, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
