Eastover- Freddie Holmes Brown, 68, died in his home on Saturday, August 25, 2012. He was the son of the late Harvard Ward and Lela Holmes Brown. He retired as a lieutenant after 31 years with the Fayetteville Fire Department. He was a 1962 graduate of Central High School.
At Freddie's request he was cremated with no funeral service. His ashes will be scattered in the ocean off the coast of Oak Island, as he requested. At a future date, a marker will be placed in his memory by his family.
Freddie is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sara Smith Brown; his daughter, Sarah Scorza and husband, Martinez, of Atlanta; his son, Ward Holmes Brown of the home; his sister, Lucy Brown McLaurin and husband, Jimmy, of Fayetteville; his nephew, Keith McLaurin, of Raleigh; his nephew, Scott McLaurin and wife, Susan, of Fayetteville; two great-nephews, Keith Jr. and Andy McLaurin, of Raleigh; and his faithful companion, "Tipper."
The family appreciates the support of many loving and devoted family members and friends. Memorials may be made to Magnolia Baptist Church, Stedman, NC; or to cancer research at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC.
