Mr. Frederick Gene Berckman, 77, of Fayetteville, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Berckman was born in Cumberland County on March 24, 1936, son of the late Freddie Berckman and Ruby Jackson Berckman. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 11 am in Judson Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Byrd officiating. The burial will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rachel Hair Berckman; brother, Jimmy L. Berckman and wife Linda of Fayetteville; niece, Allyson L. Joyner and husband Danny L. Joyner of Fayetteville; nephew, Brien Berckman and wife Gloria Berckman of Chesapeake, Va; additional survivors include a great nephew Justin L. Joyner and a great niece Jordan L. Joyner, both of Fayetteville; and a great niece Sydney Berckman of Chesapeake, Va. Mr. Berckman was a long time member of Judson Baptist Church, where he served on many committees and was long time Sunday School Secretary. He was retired from Thompson-Hayward Chemical Company and Carolina Eastern Chemical Company. Before his health declined, he was an avid golfer. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Judson Baptist Church, 505 Judson Church Road, Fayetteville NC 28312.
