CW4 (Ret.) Frederick W. Chrisman passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
Fred was born on September 6, 1946 in Worth, New York to the late Leon Chrisman and Anne Ackley. In addition to his parents, Fred is also predeceased by his brothers, Doug Chrisman, Mike Chrisman and sisters, Bev Dudley, Nancy Humphrey and Vicki Monica.
He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Rita Chrisman; daughter, Michelle Thompson and husband Mike; grandchildren, Sean and Sara Thompson; brother, Joe Chrisman (Susie); sister, Kathy Walsh, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fred served in the Marines and then the Army faithfully and honorably for 34 years. He was a veteran of Vietnam and Desert Shield/Storm. He received multiple awards and commendations from the Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force including Combat action, Purple Heart, Valorous Unit Award and Presidential Citation. Fred served as a CW4 Delta Force Parachute Rigger Commander, Sky Diver Instructor, Recruiter, and Air Drop Systems Technician testing new equipment.
Fred, during retirement, taught welding at FTCC, was a contractor at the Airborne Board, enjoyed going to his beach house, riding his golf cart, fishing with the grandkids, playing golf, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Phoenix Lodge #8, the Shriners and The Knights of Pythias. He also loved his daily breakfast meetings at Hardees with old friends and new.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12pm – 1pm, then a short service with full military honors in the Chapel, followed by a private burial at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery at 2pm. Pastor Dennis Lamm will be officiating .
