MSG Gale Edward Nelson, US Army Retired, 72, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 11 am in Jernigan Warren Chapel with Chaplain Colonel Timothy N. Willoughby officiating. The burial will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Nelson was a training specialist with the US Army Special Operations Command. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War having served his country for 24 years with the 1st, 3rd, 5th, & 7th Special Forces Group. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Hazel Simmons Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Doris S. Nelson, of the home; a stepdaughter, Sharon, of Pennsylvania; a brother, Gene Nelson of Lady Luck, Florida; and several neices and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10 am to 11 am at the funeral home.
