Gary Cato, 45, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011. He was born Oct. 24, 1965, to Max and Joyce Cato in Marion, IL. Gary was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew and a dear friend. He was preceded in death by his father, Max Cato; brother, Jerry Cato; and nephew, Jacob Cato. Gary is survived by his wife, Shannon Cato; and daughter Ashleigh Cato. He is also survived by his mother Joyce Cato; two nieces Nicki Holmes and Stacy Cato; and great-niece River and great-nephew Brooks Holmes. After attending Marion High School in Marion, Il, he served four years in the United States Navy. Upon completion of his naval service, he worked in numerous capacities for several automotive dealers before he began a career at Rick Hendrick Chrysler, where he worked for the last 11 years. Gary enjoyed time with his family and friends and to some; he was also seen as a "second father". Everyone who knew him could always count on him for a good laugh. He was an avid Florida Gator fan, enjoyed watching NASCAR, playing golf, and sharing his wealth of knowledge in sports trivia. Gary was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and leaves his church family, a host of dear friends and relatives that will miss his smile, his jokes and his laughs every day. Visitation will be Friday February 4, 2011 from 1pm to 2:30pm in St Andrews United Methodist Chruch with the memorial service following at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cape Fear Valley Cancer Center and St. Andrews UMC or St. Andrews Academy. Arrangements will be handled by Jernigan Warren.
