Mrs. Gayle Martin Braxton, 86, of Godwin, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, August 9, 2022, in the presence of her loved ones.

Gayle was born November 27, 1935, to the late Lewis Melvin Martin and Evelyn Grace Williams Martin.  She was born in Graham, NC where she spent all her childhood. She attended Graham High School and later attended business school in Fayetteville, NC.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother that put her family at the forefront of her life. Her big personality and endearing smile captivated the hearts of many. Gayle never knew a stranger and had a special way of making you feel loved. Her silly sense of humor and infectious laugh is what drew so many to her. She was kind, generous, and compassionate. She would always put the needs of others before her own. Gayle loved the beach, working in her yard and garden, and enjoying all of life's moments with her family. Her spirit was as beautiful on the inside as it was on the outside. There is no doubt God used her to make this world a little brighter.

Gayle was preceded in death by husband, Myers Griffin "Sonny" Braxton and a sister, Connie Cone.

Gayle is survived by her son, John Tarlton Braxton (Michelle) of Fuquay-Varina; two daughters, Jeannine Braxton Lindsay of Garner and Myra Hester Braxton of LaGrange; sister, Sheila Whitt of Elon; two brothers, Melvin Martin of Burlington, and Jerry Martin of Chapel Hill; four grandchildren, Braxton Lindsay, Meredith Wood (Tyler), Grant Braxton (Jillian), and William Braxton; and one great-grandson, Grayson Wood.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Godwin Presbyterian Church.  Burial will follow in the Old Bluff Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service, at the church.
