Gene Douglas Dunaway, 78 of Birmingham, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Crumbley.

He is survived by his sons, Gene Douglas Dunaway II and Chad Dunaway (Nicole); father, Frank Crumbley; brother, Larry Crumbley (Paula); grandchildren, Aidan and Brady Dunaway; and niece, Tracy Core (Alan).

Gene grew up in Fayetteville, NC where he was a member of Snyder memorial Baptist Church and graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-62 then graduated from Campbell College in 1966. Gene worked in retail for J.C. Penney then in the drugstore industry retiring from CVS. He moved to Birmingham in 1976 and began attending Peoples Church in the late 80's.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lafayette Memorial Park with Rev. John Cook officiating.
