FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Army Command Sgt. Maj. George M. Townsend, 80, of Fayetteville, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2011. Services: Funeral, 11 a.m. Wednesday in Walstone Baptist Church. Burial in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. Visitation, 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Survived by: Wife, Johanna; son Gregory; sisters, Lois Lowe, Alice Hayley and Patricia Cheek; and two grandchildren.
