Obituary

Gerald W. Lee died on January 7, 2013 at the age of 65. He passed away at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina surrounded by his family. Gerald was born on June 7th, 1947 in Campbellton, North Carolina. After graduating from Massey Hill High School in 1965, he entered the United States Marine Corps. As a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, the discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines followed him throughout his life. After his time of service in the Marines, Gerald began working at Carolina Telephone in 1970 as Central Office Technician in the Fayetteville Toll Office. In 1985 he accepted a promotion to Outside Plant Engineer with United Telcom, where he was instrumental in the placement of Fiber Optic Cable facilities throughout the Midwest and Northeastern United States. In 1987 he was promoted to Carrier Sales Manager at Sprint and transferred to Overland Park, Kansas. In 1998 he accepted a transfer with Sprint to Charlotte, North Carolina to be closer to his family. He retired from Sprint in 2006 after a distinguished career with the company and remained in Charlotte. Gerald is survived by his wife, Chrissie Chadwick Lee. He is also survived by his two daughters, Yvonne and Kristin and their mother, Dolores Lee. Yvonne Lee Kovasckitz, her husband, Joe and three children—Greyson, Hannah and Quentin reside in Hope Mills, North Carolina. Kristin Lee Purtell and her husband, Tim along with son, Evan reside in Melbourne, Florida. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Brenda Lee of Pensacola, Florida. Gerald is predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Gladys Lee and his brother, Julius McNair "Mackie" Lee all of Fayetteville, North Carolina. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Chapel located at 545 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina with Dr. Watis P. McLeod officiating.. Immediately following the memorial service, there will be a committal of Cremated Remains in the Old Bluff Presbyterian Church cemetery located at Route 1 Old Bluff Road, Godwin, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, Illinois 60611. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Chapel. Burial Old Bluff Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Wade, N.C.
