FAYETTEVILLE-Geraldine Roy, 92, a long-time resident of Highland House, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Jan. 28 2012, after a long good life.
Mrs. Roy was born in 1919 in Randolph County to the late Ernest Smith and Martha Canfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John, and daughter, JoAnn Canfield. One of 11 children, Mrs. Roy was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mrs. Roy retired from Davis Memorial Hospital as a dietary supervisor and moved to North Carolina in 1987. She was active in the church services provided at Towers West Apartment where she resided for many years and at Highland House where she spent her last years. An avid baseball fan, she attended many games, including the Braves and Astros among others. She loved to travel and traveled to Europe and across the United States with her children.
Mrs. Roy is survived by one son, Ernest L. Roy (USN Ret) and wife, Sue, of Chesapeake, Va.; two daughters, Patricia Lousie Roy-Jolly of Harker Heights, Texas, and Emma Jean Roy of Fayetteville, N.C. Mrs. Roy is survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Roy will be laid to rest next to her husband, John, in a graveside service on Feb 3. in West Virginia. Services are entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville, N.C., and Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins.A graveside service will be held Friday, February 3 in Elkins, West Virginia at Maple Wood Cemetery at 2PM.
