Gertha Lee McDonald, 83, of Fayetteville passed away on Christmas morning. A devout Christian lady and abundantly generous in spirit, Mrs. McDonald lived her life to the fullest, was loved and will be sorely missed by her family. Mrs. McDonald was born Gertha Lee Owens in Columbus County on June 4, 1927. She and her late husband of 52 years, Buford O. McDonald, made their home in Fayetteville in 1944. In her later years, Mrs. McDonald loved to travel, garden and spend time with relatives and friends. Mrs. McDonald is survived by her daughter, Brenda McDonald Mauney of Fayetteville; her sons, Buford O. McDonald, Jr & wife Erna of Fayetteville and Alton L. McDonald & wife LaVon of Roseboro; her sisters, Marie Cooley of Fayetteville, Sue Neil Roberts of Oak Island, NC and Beverly Jean Milligan of Siler City, NC ; her brothers, Ronnie Owens and Billy Ray Owens of Lumberton, NC and Jimmy Earl Owens of Spanaway, Washington; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home by the Rev. Tom Counts. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The service will be followed by a graveside at Cross Creek Cemetery #3 . Arrangements by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
