Gloria was born in Harnett County on July 17, 1936, to Thomas H. and Clyda B. Wilmoth. The oldest of four girls, she was raised in Coats, NC. and graduated from Coats High School in 1954.
She married her childhood sweetheart, (Clarence) Stewart Hough on August 22, 1958, at Coats Baptist Church. They settled in Fayetteville where Gloria spent her career in education. She loved working with children and especially loved teaching them to read. She valued education and instilled the same value in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Gloria retired at the age of 70 from Cumberland County Schools.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Clyda, and great grandson, Andrew.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years, Stewart; her children, Lisa Harvell (Gary) and Lori Murphy (Brian); grandchildren, Lauren Murray (Ryan), Emily McLauchlin (Ross), and Ryan Murphy (Gwen); and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Luke, Logan, and Thomas. She is also survived by her sisters, Rosa Sharp, Mary Williams, and Becky Taylor (Earl), and many nieces and nephews. Her family was her most valued possession and she loved her Lord.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to the staff of Cape Fear Valley – 6 South and Valley Hospice House. Gloria was a long-time supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. If you wish to donate in her memory, the family would be honored. www.stjude.org
