Gloria Stanfield Young, 87, of Fayetteville, NC passed away on Tuesday, March 29 peacefully in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 3:00pm in Culbreth Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Heather Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home on Ramsey St.

Gloria was born on December 23, 1928 in Fayetteville, N.C. to the late Gladys Amanda Cash and David Floyd Stanfield. Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Mervin Young; daughter Shirley Starcher; stepfather Ambrose Cash; brothers Richard Cash, David Stanfield, Walter Stanfield, Philip Stanfield, Floyd Stanfield, and Claude Cash; son-in-law Mervin Smith. Mrs. Young was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a lifetime member of Culbreth Memorial United Methodist Church and a volunteer of Highsmith Memorial Hospital for 29 years.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Smith of Fayetteville, NC; three sons, Tom Young and wife, Mary Kircher of Raleigh, NC, Charles Young of Fayetteville, NC and Richard Young of Kansas City, MO; sister Marie McLendon of Fayetteville, NC; brothers Oscar Cash of Jupiter, FL and Curtis Cash of Gettysburg, PA; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shirley Starcher Scholarship Fund at Methodist University.
