Gregory godwin Holmes, 85, of 1319 River Road, Fayetteville, went home to be with the Lord friday, Feb. 2, 2007, in cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Holmes was retired from Belk after 45 years of service. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon, elder, and elder emeritus. he was the Sunday school president and served on many committees. He was a member of the Seventy and the Stephens Ministry, and he received a service award form the Presbyterian Women. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, feb. 5, 2007, in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Wright Coker Jr. and Dr. McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park. A visitation will take place on hour prior to the service at the church parlor. Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Linda Holmes of the home; daughters, Beth Holmes Sheldon of Burbank, Calif., and Lynda Lee Zettle of Stedman; stepson, David Farrell Jr. of Fayetteville; stepdaughter, Page farrell of Wilmington; foster children, Dr. Julia Little and Dr. William Vorder-Bruegge; three grandchildren; and four foster grandchilren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Alice Godwin Holmes; a sister, Elizabeth Holmes Benton; a grandson, Colby Breece Farrell; and his first wife, Martha Sanborn Holmes.
