Obituary

Hannah Huske McLean Mendelsohn, 64, of Fayetteville died Friday, November 10, 2023.  Hannah was born April 11, 1959, in Fayetteville. She was the daughter of the late Margaret Huske deRosset McLean and Dr. James Wilton McLean.

Hannah attended Fayetteville Academy, and graduated from Terry Sanford High School. She then attended Louisburg College and received her Bachelor's degree from Fayetteville State University. She was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Tar Heels and the Carolina Panthers.  She was a gifted cook taking after her mother in the art of entertaining and hosting.  She always valued time with her children, Edie, Caroline, and Rebecca and loved them dearly, but especially treasured her time with her grandchildren, Krystopher, Kamryn, and Kalaya. She fought cancer valiantly for 17 years so that she might create precious memories with them. Hannah had the spirit of a warrior, never complained, and even in the midst of grueling cancer treatment, she worked tirelessly to provide for her family.  Her outlook on life was so positive that she never dwelled on the difficult things she endured, but simply embraced life to its fullest.  Rather than focus on her own troubles, she sought to help others. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends who will remember her smile, thoughtfulness, grateful heart, happy outlook on life, and her love.

Hannah is preceded in death by her father, Dr. James Wilton McLean, her mother, Margaret Huske deRosset McLean, sister, Katherine Mariah McLean Mixon, and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Jamora Killens. She is survived by her three daughters, Edith Anne Mendelsohn, Caroline deRosset Mendelsohn, Hannah Rebecca Mendelsohn, three grandchildren, Krystopher Carl Ford, Kamryn Jamorez Killens and Kalaya Everlee Rose Killens, her sister, Margaret deRosset McLean Gordon, and her brother, James Wilton McLean, Jr.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 1PM at Cross Creek Cemetery #4 with a reception for all family and friends immediately following at the home of Leigh Anne and Jim McLean, 118 Dobbin Avenue.  In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations may be sent to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center.
