Obituary

Harold D. Barrett FAYETTEVILLE - Harold Douglas Barrett, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Barrett was a World War II veteran, serving in the Headquarters Company First Battalion 345th Infantry. He served his country well and received honors including the Bronze Star. Mr. Barrett retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 28 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Massey Hill Baptist Church and lived his life with Christian principles. He loved to garden, fish and care for his wife, his family and his friends. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 15, 2008, in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Tim Evans officiating. A private burial will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife of 64 years, Thomasine Dugger Barrett; and four children and their spouses, Doug Barrett and his wife, Josie, Tommy Barrett and his wife, Cathy, Charlotte Barrett Johnson and her husband, Bill, and Carlton Barrett and his wife, Sally. He was a proud grandfather to Holly Barrett Bachman, James Barrett, David Barrett, Kelley Johnson Waggy, Allison Barrett and Casey Barrett Cooke. Mr. Barrett was a great-grandfather to Sarah Michelle Bachman, Kaylie Cooke and Lorelai Olivia Waggy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Cancer Center, 1638 Owen Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28304. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
