Obituary

Harold James Sturdivant peacefully graduated to the church triumphed on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at his home after a long illness at age 88. He was preceded in death by his wife, of 64 years, Josephine Harris Lassiter and their only son, Mark. He is survived by his daughter Pam Moll and son-in-law Douglas, of Brevard NC, a brother Alvin and wife Shirley of Wilkesboro NC, and a sister Anne Nichols of Patterson, NC. Harold was born on April 27, 1927 in the small town of Rootstown, Ohio to Alvin Alexander and Rosalyn Anna Caldwell. But, he spent most of his childhood in Wilkes County in North Carolina. He graduated from North Wilkesboro High School and Southern Tech in Chamblee Georgia as a Heating and Air Conditioning Technician. Harold's career advanced in Heating and Air Conditioning, prompting the move to many cities including Orange County, NJ, Atlanta GA, Wilmington, Raleigh, and finally Fayetteville NC. It was while living in Fayetteville that he established Sturdivant Supply Company which provided parts and supplies for heating and air conditioning. Harold enjoyed helping others and He and Jo faithfully served in their church wherever they lived. At Highland Presbyterian Church Harold tackled several projects with a determination and organization that that was admired by many. Among these were the the founding of the Television Ministry and Steven Ministry. Other passions that Harold participated in were Habitat for Humanity and mission trips to Hattie. Harold and Jo created several scholarships to provide financial aide to college students. He also served on the Board of Directors at The Bank of Four Oaks and Trust. At other times Harold enjoyed hiking and back packing in the Appalachian Mountains. During Harold and Jo's retirement years they traveled to all the lower 48 states of the United States and parts of Canada in their mobile home. Harold took pictures where ever he went leaving behind a pictorial record of his life. He obtained his private pilots license often flying for business and also for pleasure. In 2010 Jo was diagnosed with Alzheimer. Harold took care of Jo at first on his own, and then with the help of care-givers in their home until her death in May of 2013. Harold Sturdivant was a man of the Christian faith, a loving husband and father, and a role model for many. He will be greatly missed. Both visitation and the funeral service will be at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville NC on Monday, December 21. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 1pm until 2pm. The Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Dr. Ewart Wyle officiating. Internment will follow the service at Lafayette Memorial Park & Mausoleum on Ramsey St. in Fayetteville, NC.
