Harriette Austin Reaves, 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the Carolina Inn.

She was born in Hoke County NC to the late Leonard E. Reaves, Jr., and Nelle Hollingsworth Reaves.

Harriette graduated from Sullins Jr. College and went on to finish her degree and then a Master's degree from George Mason University.  She taught science, math, and computer skills in Annandale Virginia schools, winning many awards for her teaching.  She was the consummate cook, cultivated award winning daylilies, and often volunteered at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. Her neighbors remember her as friendly and helpful and she was most fond of her dachshund puppy, Missy.

Harriette was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Thomas Mark Grubbs, and her brothers, L.E. Reaves, III; Thomas Reaves; and Robert Reaves.  She is survived by her son, Dr. William   E. Grubbs, Jr., and wife, Maria; grandson, Connor Grubbs; sister, Dorothy R. Ball and husband, Harold; brother, Franklin 'Bing' Reaves, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 1:00 at Lafayette Memorial Park.
