Hazel Bulla Upton died on November 21, 2013 at Friends Homes at Guilford in Greensboro, NC. She was born near Fayetteville, NC on September 20, 1915, the daughter of the late Hugh Alexander and Hattie Geddie Bulla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Richard Upton, daughter Harriett Jane Upton, brother George Hector Bulla and sisters Roxie Bulla Owen, Lita Grey Bulla Brank and Barbara Catherine Bulla. She is survived by her son David Hugh Upton of Greenville, SC, stepsons Steve (Joyce) Upton of Smithfield, NC; Jack (Jackie) Upton of Greensboro, NC, several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Hazel graduated from Stedman High School as valedictorian of her class. She also graduated from Kings Business College in Raleigh. She retired from the NC Department of Transportation in Fayetteville in 1981. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Smithfield. Since 1996 she has resided at Friends Homes at Guilford. There will be a graveside service at Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville on Saturday, November 23, at 11:00 a. m.
